County approves Midhurst Secondary
Plan
SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP / October 13, 2011
–
The Corporate Service Committee of the County of Simcoe approved the Township
of Springwater Midhurst Secondary Plan (Official Plan Amendment No. 38) at their
meeting on Wednesday October 12, 2011.
The Midhurst settlement boundary was established in 1982 and the
Township of Springwater adopted the Midhurst Secondary Plan in November of 2008.
However, the Plan still required approval from the County as the approval
authority. The County did not make a decision within the 180-day limit set out
in the Planning Act, resulting in an appeal to the Ontario Municipal
Board (OMB) by the Township of Springwater and four development interests.
The appeals of non-decision from the Township and the four
development interests have been with withdrawn and the County has now moved
ahead with the approval of the Midhurst Secondary Plan.
Once the County has issued the Notice of Decision approving the
Midhurst Secondary Plan, a 20-day appeal period will begin. During this time,
anyone can appeal the County’s decision to the OMB.
The approved Secondary Plan prescribes the size and location of the
first phase of development. The requirements for subsequent phases of
development are also prescribed in the plan.
The Township has retained the services of a third party business
consultant who has confirmed the required size of the first phase of development
and the rationale for the location of the first phase of the development.
The Township will be hosting a public information session to
discuss the phasing strategies in the plan in the near future.
Further details will be provided when available. The Midhurst
Secondary Plan is available on the Township of Springwater’s website:
www.springwater.ca/Services/Planning/OfficialPlan/MidhurstSecondaryPlan

Midhurst Ratepayers Association - Membership Time!
We have been working hard-to encourage individuals to
consider a role on our Executive. There are a few people who have expressed an
interest in sitting on the Executive; however there is always room for more.
Once an Executive is in place we will be able to incorporate as an Association.
Now we need your help! It's time to renew your membership
for the 2011 calendar year! We have already received some renewals from members
but would like to encourage all of you to do the same. Your continued support is
critical to our success. Please note that forms are available at the General
Store but cheques and updated membership forms must be mailed to: Midhurst
Ratepayers Association, Box 272, Midhurst, Ontario, LOL 1X0. Due to Canada Post
regulations, Barb cannot accept loose cheques or mail from us.
Others have volunteered their time to do telephoning,
emailing, helping with meetings or mailings. All of this support is greatly
appreciated! However those of you who are busy professionals may not be able to
make this kind of time commitment. Other ratepayer groups have been fortunate to
have "supporting" or sustaining" members who make financial contributions to
their groups. Please consider making a donation to show your support!
Those who read the Midhurst Newsletter know our new council
member Mr. Jack Hanna is once again putting a report in each issue as well as
this website. During the past municipal election voters across the township saw
fit to elect essentially a new council. Residents should know they are always
welcome to attend Council and Planning meetings. The schedule is posted on the
Springwater Township web site. You can contact Jennett Mays at the township
office if you want more details. The new council is providing residents an
opportunity to speak at the conclusion of meetings.
Lastly we are pushing ahead with plans for our annual
general meeting later in the spring, likely in May. The Ratepayers may only meet
once or twice a year depending on what issues develop. Please watch the Midhurst
Newsletter, this website or check your email for details.
